چکیده
Rudin, Chapter 4, Problem #3. The space L(T ) is separable since the trigonometric polynomials with complex coefficients whose real and imaginary parts are rational form a countable dense subset. (Denseness follows from Theorem 3.14 and Theorem 4.25; countability is clear since {e | n ∈ Z} is a countable basis of the trigonometric polynomials.) Meanwhile the space L(T ) is not separable. To see this, let S denote the set of indicator functions of subintervals of the circle (viewed as [0, 1)) with irrational endpoints. Then S is uncountable and the L distance between any two elements of S is 1. Any dense subset of L(T ) must contain an element in the (disjoint!) collection of balls {B1/3(x) |x ∈ S}. So any dense subset must be uncountable. ̃

An Efficient Genetic Algorithm to Solve the Intermodal Terminal Location problem
The exponential growth of the flow of goods and passengers, fragility of certain products and the need for the optimization of transport costs impose on carriers to use more and more multimodal transport. In addition, the need for intermodal transport policy has been strongly driven by environmental concerns and to benefit from the combination of different modes of transport to cope with the in...
متن کاملThe Extent of Correspondence between the Content of the 9th Grade Math Textbook and the Real World Issues
Education has always been one of the main concerns of human societies, but in different periods and different communities educational goals have varied. Nowadays, and especially here in Iran, the main goal of education is to prepare children for real life and its problem. More specifically, the goal in mathematics education is help students with solving real life problems using their acquired m...
متن کاملThe Number of Solutions Sufficient for Solving a Family of Problems
This paper deals with families of optimization problems defined over a common set of potential solutions. We consider several problems-solutions systems, and for each one, prove the existence of a small set of solutions that contains an optimal solution to every problem. These proofs are mostly algebraic in nature. The families of problems covered here mostly include separation problems, proble...

متن کاملCharacterization of efficient points of the production possibility set under variable returns to scale in DEA
We suggest a method for finding the non-dominated points of the production possibility set (PPS) with variable returns to scale (VRS) technology in data envelopment analysis (DEA). We present a multiobjective linear programming (MOLP) problem whose feasible region is the same as the PPS under variable returns to scale for generating non-dominated points. We demonstrate that Pareto solutions o...
